FRP for Flexural Strengthening of Timber Bridge Beams
نویسندگان
چکیده
The majority of timber bridges in Canada requires flexural and/or shear strengthening to increase their load-carrying capacity in response to the demand to increase the allowable gross vehicle weight. This paper presents an innovative approach for the use of fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) to strengthen timber bridges. The advantages of this strengthening system are inevitable: fibre reinforced polymers are lightweight, non-corrosive, and have high strength. This enables engineers to strengthen old timber bridges without increasing the self-weight of the structure.

Structural behaviour of RC beams with external flexural and flexural–shear strengthening by FRP sheets
This paper presents experimental research on reinforced concrete (RC) beams with external flexural and flexural–shear strengthening by fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets consisting of carbon FRP (CFRP) and glass FRP (GFRP). The work carried out has examined both the flexural and flexural–shear strengthening capacities of retrofitted RC beams and has indicated how different strengthening arra...
متن کاملThe Influence of CFRP Anchorage on Achieving Sectional Flexural Capacity of Strengthened Concrete Beams
This research program is intended to verify the influence of using distributed external U-wrap CFRP anchorage to shift the failure mode from overall debonding to sectional flexural failure for concrete beams externally bonded with CFRP sheets. Premature cover delamination and FRP debonding are predominant failure modes in FRP flexural strengthening that may be delayed or prevented by using FRP ...
متن کاملProposed Design Procedure of Nsm Frp Reinforcement for Flexural and Shear Strengthening of Rc Beams
Near-surface mounted (NSM) fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement has been found to perform efficiently as a flexural/shear strengthening technology for reinforced concrete (RC) members, while offering some additional practical advantages with respect to the most widespread technique of externally bonded laminates. This paper presents a design procedure for flexural and shear strengthenin...
متن کاملEffect of Shear Resistance on Flexural Debonding Load-Carrying Capacity of RC Beams Strengthened with Externally Bonded FRP Composites
Debonding failure is the main failure mode in flexurally strengthened reinforced concrete beams by externally bonded or near surface mounted fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composites. It is believed that FRP debonding will be initiated if the shear stress on the concrete-FRP interface reaches the tensile strength of concrete. However, it was found through experimental and analytical studies tha...
متن کاملExperimental and Numerical Investigation of Two Fixed-End RC Beams Strengthened With CFRP Bars in NSM Method
Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) material is currently being produced in different configurations and widely used to strengthen and retrofit concrete structures and bridges. It is also possible to apply other strengthening methods without changing the appearance or the dimensions of the structure. Near Surface Mounted (NSM) is a recent strengthening method using CFRP bars (rods or laminate strips...
